Invite 103 // Sep 24My wife and I play a silly game this time of year. On the return leg of a hike, if the trail is flat, we'll have a competition to see who can catch the most falling leaves before we make it back to the car. The rules are straightforward and somewhat quirky: You look like an idiot doing it, but you feel like a kid, which is a feeling I find myself chasing more with each passing year. So far, I'm undefeated. I like to think it's because I'm deeply in tune with the breezes and when a maple is ready to drop its leaves, but it's more likely because I'm a 6'3" former center fielder. The leaves are changing early this year. We considered starting a game on Mt. Blue this past weekend, but the trail is hellishly steep and the trees weren't yet ready to play. The foliage forecast is looking great this weekend, though. See you on the trail? ✌️ Max Reach 850+ Maine outdoor enthusiasts while supporting a community resource. Sponsor the next issue.
